This year’s Building Better Healthcare Awards were held on the 31st October in London. Community Ventures submitted Victoria Road Health Centre, Hartlepool in the category of Best Internal Environment – Refurbishment. This was a small but innovative project in a deprived community which sought to secure the future of much needed local services after a GP partnership got into financial difficulties and risked closure. Working with the GPs and NHS commissioners, Community Ventures was able to provide a solution which has protected and improved the existing practice premises and brought in other GPs from dated terraced premises into a refurbished, fit-for-purpose, modern facility, integrating health and community services in the heart of the community.
On the day, we didn’t win, but were successful being shortlisted for consideration by the judges and more importantly, patients and staff in the area now have an enhanced care environment for the foreseeable future.
